The Music Of The Pearl

The last line shows that the pearl has finally put it's evil and greed to rest. Kino no longer hears the music of the pearl, and no other people will envy Kino and his pearl. But his journey with the pearl will never leave his mind, but the music and taunting of the pearl does. Kino saw himself though other eyes, the taunting eyes of the pearl. It was an illusion that tricked the mind of Kino and his whole community. The music shown throughout the book describes Kino's emotions and let's the reader know how he feels. What the author means when the pearl "Drifted to a whisper" is that the pearl's music no longer plays in Kino's head, and he cannot show any emotions the pearl gives him any longer because he has no feeling for it anymore. The pearl is gone, and Kino will try his hardest to forget it, and disconnect the taunting music from his head.
