- The last line shows that the pearl has finally put it's evil and greed to rest. Kino no longer hears the music of the pearl, and no other people will envy Kino and his pearl. But his journey with the pearl will never leave his mind, but the music and taunting of the pearl does. Kino saw himself though other eyes, the taunting eyes of the pearl. It was an illusion that tricked the mind of Kino and his whole community. The music shown throughout the book describes Kino's emotions and let's the reader know how he feels. What the author means when the pearl "Drifted to a whisper" is that the pearl's music no longer plays in Kino's head, and he cannot show any emotions the pearl gives him any longer because he has no feeling for it anymore. The pearl is gone, and Kino will try his hardest to forget it, and disconnect the taunting music from his head.

I believe that you did thoroughly refer to the repeated motif of music throughout the story. You also showed great understanding of how the pearl was a symbol of many things.There were multiple references to the connection of the pearl and its affect on his family and the entire community! I particularly liked the line "It was an illusion that tricked the mind of Kino and the whole community." Although general, it was a superior overview of the entire story! I liked how it talked about the town thinking the pearl was good, but implying that they eventually found out otherwise!
